Happy Thursday, InsideEVs readers! Ford is setting the bar high for the Fathom, its $30,000 pickup truck debuting next year. The automaker aims to sell 100,000 of them in its first year on sale.
Reading that in The Wall Street Journal, I can’t help but be reminded of another ambitious EV target Ford declared a few years back: 150,000 F-150 Lightnings per year. It never got close.
But the company clearly thinks it has a hit on its hands with this new midsize truck. And it’s betting that a lower price point, a new EV platform, and a novel manufacturing method can help it crack open the EV market in a way that nobody apart from Tesla has.
