How do you electrify iconic enthusiast cars in a way that diehard fans won’t scoff at? BMW has a few ideas for the M3 and M5.

This week, BMW released the first details about its electric M cars, which arrive starting in 2027. They’ll have quad motors and “performance levels you’ve never seen” in an M production car, the project’s leader said in a media briefing.

On this week’s Plugged-In Podcast, Patrick George and I cover BMW’s plans, mobility news at CES and the EV winners and losers of 2025.

Here’s what else we’re covering today:

  • Canada struck a deal to slash tariffs on Chinese cars.

  • The Rivian R2 is one big step closer to full-scale production.

  • Volkswagen ID. Buzz did surprisingly well around the world last year.

Have a great long weekend. We’ll be back in your inbox on Tuesday!

Vibe code with your voice

Vibe code by voice. Wispr Flow lets you dictate prompts, PRDs, bug reproductions, and code review notes directly in Cursor, Warp, or your editor of choice. Speak instructions and Flow will auto-tag file names, preserve variable names and inline identifiers, and format lists and steps for immediate pasting into GitHub, Jira, or Docs. That means less retyping, fewer copy and paste errors, and faster triage. Use voice to dictate prompts and directions inside Cursor or Warp and get developer-ready text with file name recognition and variable recognition built in.
