Earlier this week, I was invited to tour LG Energy Solution’s $2 billion battery gigafactory in Lansing, Michigan, which is now making LFP cells for Tesla’s energy storage systems and NMC cells for Toyota’s upcoming Highlander EV.
The sheer scale of the 226-acre facility was eye-opening. At full capacity, the plant will employ up to 1,700 workers and produce more than 35 gigawatt-hours of batteries annually.
