Welcome back, InsideEVs readers! Hope you had a good Fourth of July holiday.

The biggest thing that caught our eye this morning was State of Charge host Tom Moloughney's real-world highway range test of the Rivian R2. Tom drove the R2 Performance Launch Edition at 70 miles per hour along the New Jersey Turnpike until the EV's gauge cluster essentially hit 0%.

Spoiler alert: The R2's highway range came in slightly below the EPA estimate, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Here are our other top stories today:

  • A new report says only 17% of U.S. car sales will have a plug by 2030, far below previous estimates.

  • Walmart’s fast charging network now has over 600 stalls in 17 U.S. states, growing quickly in just over a year.

  • The first used Rivian R2 has hit the market with just 50 miles on the odometer and a price tag that's $19,000 above MSRP.
