Extended-range EVs are all the rage right now. In automakers’ roadmaps, at least; none have hit the road in the U.S. as of yet.

It will be fascinating to see how the American public takes to this new kind of plug-in hybrid, which mates an EV and a gas-powered generator. (Yes, I know this formula has existed in the U.S. before, but not really in the modern electric era.)

Early indications are positive. I sat down with Scott Keogh, CEO of Scout Motors, earlier this week. He told me that 85% of the company’s reservations are for range-extended “Harvester” variants, blowing away his expectations. Check out my story below to learn more.
