The long-promised solid-state battery technology may finally be edging towards reality. And it could also reach American roads sooner than you think.
Estonia-based Verge Motorcycles, working with Finnish startup Donut Labs, says its all-solid-state battery is ready for production in the first quarter of this year, debuting on one of Verge’s high-end electric motorcycles.
According to the companies, the battery delivers up to 370 miles of range and can recharge in as little as five minutes. Moreover, it’s not prone to thermal runaway and doesn’t lose range in even -22 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 212F—conditions that typically expose the limits of today’s lithium-ion packs.
