Tesla ruined door handles. The Model S’ auto-presenting handles may have been good for aerodynamics, but they suffered from quality issues, inconsistent operation and unreliability in icy and ultra-cold weather. It was a classic example of fixing something that wasn’t broken, which would become a Tesla tradition. Remember the yoke?

But while Tesla was coming up with a bad idea, other automakers had no original ideas at all. Many automakers rushed to copy the futuristic vibe of the Model S and Model 3, and so they developed their own hidden-handle “solutions.” Now, it’s everyone’s problem.

Patrick George explains in his latest. Here’s what else we have for you today:

  • The United States Postal Service’s electric mail carriers are finally rolling out. They can’t come soon enough, as the Grumman LLV that likely delivers your mail today is at least 31 years old.

  • Waymo is facing more public pushback over its noisy and sometimes chaotic charging and parking hubs.

  • Tesla defined the formula that would go on to power so many Chinese EVs. But now the master has become the student, as Andrei Nedelea explains.
