Tomorrow is the press day of the Los Angeles Auto Show, and the reveals have already started. While auto shows certainly aren’t what they once were, we’ve already seen two big debuts: The Porsche Cayenne Electric and the Jeep Recon.
I got a sneak peek at the Cayenne, and I’m impressed. I’ve already driven a Cayenne Electric prototype 350 miles at 70 mph, so we know it’ll be a range champ. But now, we also know that it’ll offer crazy power, an all-new interface and, amazingly, wireless charging. I shot a whole video on the new car, and it’s worth five minutes if you’ve got it.
The Recon is arguably more important. While Porsche already makes great EVs, Jeep’s lone electric model, the Wagoneer S, has been a dud. Both it and its platform mate, the Dodge Charger EV, have had plenty of problems. But with removable doors, a Wrangler-inspired design and serious off-road capability, the Recon may be enough to turn things around.
What else is happening today?
Jeep and Dodge EVs will get access to Tesla Superchargers early next year, the company announced last night.
Despite Chinese automakers accounting for eight of the top ten best-selling EV models worldwide, it’s Tesla that still leads, cinching the top two spots with the Model Y and Model 3.
