Volkswagen has revealed what it claims is the most efficient road legal electric vehicle. It’s called the Mission Efficiency EV, a near production concept designed to be extremely slippery and sip electrons.

It’s a modern interpretation of the XL1, which was a diesel plug-in hybrid built in limited numbers. On a nearly 800-mile roadtrip, the Mission Efficiency was charged just once and still had 102 miles left in the tank when it reached its destination. The efficiency was an impressive 7.51 miles per kilowatt hour.

But don’t get too excited. There are no confirmed plans to put this in production. However, the learnings from this project could migrate to production EVs.

That and more in today’s edition of The Update.
