The day is finally here. On Tuesday, Rivian kicked off customer deliveries of the R2, starting with a souped-up Performance model that costs close to $60,000. For this charming EV startup to have real staying power, the R2 must be a hit. And it looks like Rivian stuck the landing, at least in terms of execution.

Mack Hogan got to drive the thing last week, and he came away extremely impressed. “I want one, badly,” our Editor-in-Chief wrote in his first-drive review. Next, we’ll be watching closely to see how production scales up, and whether buyers show up.

Check out all of Mack’s first impressions below. Here’s what else we’ve got cooking for you today:

  • Mack got to hear from Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe about what’s wrong with America’s EV market—and how the R2 may fix it.

  • Another new(ish) cheap EV is coming: the Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback.

  • BMW’s electric M3 has fake sounds—but it doesn’t just imitate a V8.

The Last Time Stocks Were This Expensive Was December 1999.

"Right now, it's good. But it was in '72, '86, 2000, and 2007." - Jamie Dimon, May 2026.

The Shiller CAPE ratio just hit 42.3. The only time in 140 years it's been higher? December 1999.

Stocks can stay expensive for a long time...

It’s one metric to consider, but when your portfolio is built around the most expensive equities in modern history, what else you diversify with could really matter.

Blue-chip contemporary and post war art has shown near-zero correlation with the S&P since 1995.* Prices are largely driven by private collectors competing for a fixed supply of artwork by artists like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso.

Masterworks lets you invest in shares of that market.

  • $1.3B deployed across 500+ artworks

  • 29 exits to date

  • Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, not including those unsold

Fairly Lazy Explanation’: Rivian's CEO Doesn’t Think Americans Are Anti-EV

Just two models make up around 50% of EV sales in the U.S. To RJ Scaringe, that's "not a reflection of a healthy or well-served market."

BMW’s Electric M3 Doesn’t Imitate A V8. It Does Something Cooler

The goal isn’t to copy a V8, V10, or straight-six, but to give drivers the speed and acceleration cues that EVs usually lack.
